Coach Neale has been around Hart swimming from the beginning – literally. In 1970 Hart High fielded its first swim team (before title IX - so boys only). The captain of the inaugural squad was senior Steve Neale.
Coach Neale swam and played water polo for four years at CSUN and competed in three Division II NCAA championships, placing 13th in the 100 breaststroke at the 1974 NCAA finals. After graduation, coach Neale returned to Hart where he served as assistant to coach Joel Barr from 1975 to 1978. From 1979 to 1982 Coach Neale was the head girls coach for Saugus High School and from 1982 to 1983 he was head water polo coach, girls and boys swim coach at Simi High School. In 1984 he returned to become the head girls and boys coach at Hart High where he as been ever since.
Coach Neale continues to compete in swimming and masters competition and is a semi-serious triathlete competing in and completing two Hawaiian Ironman World Championships. During the summer Coach Neale works as a LA County Lifeguard at Castaic Lake.
