Dear Mighty Metro swimmers and parents,

On behalf of the coaching staff at Metro, thank you for all of the support you’ve given us.  The gifts over break were greatly appreciated. It’s great to be coaching on a team where we feel welcomed, appreciated and part of family.

We are sad to see Kyle leaving us.  He has left due to the increased demand of his Palmer schedule.  We all appreciate the help and attention he’s given the swimmers of Metro and we wish him well in his new career as a chiropractor. We are happy to have Coach Stacee join us. Stacee comes with an extensive swimming background and has a tremendous amount of enthusiasm for the sport of swimming.

PreChristmas practices were primarily geared toward developing the perfect stroke technique.  Although not many of us have developed the “perfect stroke” for the most part, we have made great strides in that direction.  For the rest of this season, big changes in technique won’t be emphasized as much, however, some fine tuning may be warranted. One area of the fine tuning we’ve been hammering as coaches over the past three weeks are the walls. We need to push off walls with a maximal effort, streamline, sprint kick, and transition into a race stroke at the optimum time. Too short of a streamline doesn’t take advantage of the wall (the only time a swimmer can get propulsion from something that doesn’t move); too long of a streamline slows the swimmer down below race speed.

With less than four weeks until the regular season ends at the Regional Meet, we need to focus on sprinting and speed development. Swimmers will benefit from coming to as many practices as they can make, and putting forth an increased effort at practice. It will all pay off at the final meets of the season.

As coaches we all want see tremendous improvements as this season winds down, and we want to have as many swimmers as possible qualify and join us for the state championship meets.

Finally, as always, please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any suggestions or ideas to make this team better for your own swimmers or for the team as a whole. I can be contacted at:
